Aligning Systems. Utilizing Data. Building Capacity.

How can students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs be met while supporting a teacher group that is already stretched thin?

Schools are facing rising social, emotional, and behavioral needs in students while navigating the impacts of a teacher shortage and rising educational expectations. Putting more on teachers' plates is not an option, but leaving student needs unaddressed is equally concerning.

Balancing the needs of teachers and students requires intentionally designed, simple, but impactful solutions to MTSS-Behavior.

This conference is not just about Information; It's about collaboration.

Our goal is to empower you with the latest strategies, research findings, and best practices in MTSS- Behavior to make a lasting impact in your educational communities.  At the conference, attendees will:
  • share insights and learn from one another;
  • engage in meaningful discussions;
  • connect with like-minded individuals;
  • gain fresh perspectives; and
  • discover innovative solutions to behavior supports in education.

The vast majority of educators believe in the value of supporting social, emotional and behavioral needs for students, but what constitutes this support is often debated. As a result, districts experience fragmented and inequitable behavior practices across campuses. In this session you will hear about Waco ISD's journey to adopt systemic practices for MTSS-B, including how they leveraged district resources, built momentum, and fostered collaboration. The team will share both successes and lessons learned. Leave equipped to initiate or enhance MTSS-B efforts in your district.

She has been married to her husband, Jeff, for 15 years. Jeff is a Lieutenant with the Waco ISD Police Department. When not at work, they enjoy camping with their kids or watching their youngest daughter play softball all over the country.

Trauma-Informed Practices to Support Behavior

Julie HarrisonDr. Julie Harrison, Ph.D., BCBA
District Coach, Emergent Tree Education (click to see bio

Trauma-informed teaching starts with an understanding of how trauma can impact a students ability to learn and behavioral responses in the school setting. With this approach, educators think about what student behavior may be telling them and how it can be supported. This allows educators to reflect on teaching practices to find ways to better support students who may be experiencing trauma.

Dr. Julie Harrison, Ph.D., BCBA, District Coach, Emergent Tree Education

Julie landed in the world of special education and behavior after trying her hardest to avoid a career in education like others in her family. She began her career as a self-contained high school special education teacher and moved into various roles supporting students with disabilities and behavioral needs. Julie has a Master of Education in Educational Psychology focusing on Autism Spectrum Disorders/Applied Behavior Analysis and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Special Education. Julie is a certified educator, principal, and board-certified behavior analyst. As an adjunct professor at Texas Christian University, Julie works with pre-service teachers to establish a classroom management system and motivate students. Her role as a District Coach allows her to work with school teams to create effective frameworks to meet the behavioral needs of the campus.

Do you have new teachers struggling to build strong systems in their classrooms? Do you have experienced teachers who are frustrated because student behavior is no longer responding to their tried and true systems? Join us as we walk through our mentor/mentee program and share how we have leveraged this program to build upon teacher experiences to develop new, effective strategies for building a positive classroom environment and increase teacher confidence and excitement to stay in the classroom. Our program is built on a foundation of reciprocity in which both the mentor and mentee are working to grow and improve their practices, with a high focus on classroom management systems.
